Former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua was discharged from hospital on Wednesday following the road accident that claimed the lives of two young men, Lateef Ayodele and Cina Gami, on December 29, 2025.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Wike the Lagos State and Ogun State governments confirmed Joshua’s discharge in a joint statement, saying doctors certified him clinically fit to continue his recovery at home.
The statement described the incident as tragic and painful, while extending fresh condolences to the families of the deceased.
Although discharged, the governments said the boxer remained deeply affected by the loss of the two men, who were described as his close friends.
It was disclosed that Joshua, accompanied by his mother, visited a funeral home in Lagos on Wednesday afternoon to pay his last respects as the bodies of Ayodele and Gami were prepared for repatriation later in the evening.
The statement was jointly signed by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, and the Ogun State Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade.
According to the statement, Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State expressed appreciation for the outpouring of sympathy and support from members of the public since the accident occurred.
The governors also thanked President Bola Tinubu for what they described as his fatherly support throughout the period.
They further commended the medical team at Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, for their professionalism and quality of care in treating Joshua and others who sustained injuries in the accident.

The Lagos and Ogun state governments prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and asked God to grant their families the strength to bear the loss.
