Tunisia have appointed experienced French coach Hervé Renard as head coach for the remainder of their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign following the dismissal of Sabri Lamouchi after the team’s opening defeat to Sweden.
The Tunisian Football Federation confirmed the appointment on Tuesday as the North African side seeks to revive its World Cup hopes ahead of a crucial Group Stage clash against Japan on Saturday.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Renard, who previously managed Morocco and Saudi Arabia, will take immediate charge of the Carthage Eagles. The federation disclosed that the French tactician would begin work on Tuesday evening under the same financial terms already agreed upon by both parties.
In a statement announcing the appointment, the federation said: “The Tunisian Football Federation announces the appointment of Hervé Renard as head coach of the national team through the end of the 2026 World Cup. He will assume his duties this evening under the same financial terms.”
The federation added that discussions regarding a possible long-term contract would be deferred until after Tunisia’s participation at the World Cup.
“The agreement also stipulates that negotiations regarding long-term cooperation, based on specific sporting objectives, will commence following the team’s World Cup campaign,” the statement added.
A press conference with Renard is expected to take place at the team’s training base 30 minutes before the start of training.
The coaching change comes after growing concerns over Tunisia’s performances under Lamouchi, whose tenure lasted only a few months.
The federation confirmed his departure in a separate statement, saying: “An agreement has been officially reached to dismiss coach Sabri Lamouchi.”
Tunisia’s World Cup campaign suffered an early setback following defeat to Sweden in their opening match, leaving the team under pressure heading into their remaining group fixtures.

The Carthage Eagles will face Japan this weekend before concluding their group-stage campaign against the Netherlands as they attempt to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive.
