In a significant boost to youth empowerment and skills development, the member representing Epe Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Abiodun Tobun, has sponsored and facilitated the training of 150 candidates for the Vocational Education and Innovation (VEI) Examination under the Federal Government’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Initiative.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the intervention is aimed at equipping beneficiaries with practical, industry-relevant skills that will enhance their employability, entrepreneurship potential, and economic productivity.
The Federal TVET Programme, implemented through the Federal Ministry of Education (FME), is a nationwide initiative designed to train one million Nigerians in technical and vocational skills to meet the demands of the modern workforce and promote sustainable economic growth.
As part of his commitment to human capital development, Hon. Tobun ensured that 150 young people benefited from both training and examination support, giving them an opportunity to participate in the programme and access its numerous benefits.
The TVET initiative provides participants with tuition-free training at more than 1,600 accredited centres across the country. Beneficiaries also stand to enjoy internship opportunities, nationally recognized certifications, startup support, and other incentives aimed at promoting self-reliance and economic independence.
The programme features different learning pathways tailored to the educational backgrounds and career aspirations of participants.
The Short-Term Certificate (STC) track is designed for school leavers, first-time trainees, and individuals with little or no formal education, focusing on practical vocational skills acquisition.
The Vocational Education and Innovation (VEI) track targets individuals with some educational background or prior informal skills experience, providing broader technical and vocational training through accredited institutions.
Another component is the Technical College Track, a three-year technical education programme designed for junior secondary school graduates between the ages of 13 and 20.
Participants in the programme benefit from tuition-free technical education, monthly stipends, industry-focused training, internship placements, startup grants, and equipment support upon successful completion.
Stakeholders have described Hon. Tobun’s sponsorship of the 150 beneficiaries as another demonstration of his commitment to youth empowerment, education, and economic advancement within Epe Constituency and beyond.
The initiative is expected to create opportunities for young people to acquire marketable skills, secure gainful employment, establish businesses, and contribute meaningfully to national development.
Observers noted that the intervention reflects the lawmaker’s consistent investment in programmes that promote education, capacity building, and sustainable livelihoods for young people.
With the sponsorship and training of 150 candidates for the Federal TVET Programme examination, Hon. Abiodun Tobun has once again reinforced his dedication to empowering the next generation and building a more productive and self-reliant society.
