The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has commenced an investigation into the cause of the fire outbreak at Bono Energy Terminal in the Coconut area of Apapa after firefighters successfully contained the blaze without any casualty.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the fire, which broke out around 12:00 p.m. on Friday, involved a 5-million-litre Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) storage tank at the terminal located within the Ibru Jetty Complex along the Apapa–Oworonshoki Expressway.

The Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said the emergency was reported at 12:04 p.m., prompting the immediate deployment of firefighters from the Ajegunle, Sari Iganmu and Isolo Fire Stations, who arrived at the scene by 12:16 p.m.
According to her, the coordinated response by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, supported by emergency teams from neighbouring oil and gas facilities, brought the fire under control before it could spread to nearby storage tanks and critical infrastructure.
“The fire was successfully contained and completely extinguished by 1:54 p.m.. The prompt intervention prevented the fire from spreading to adjoining tanks and other critical facilities, thereby minimising potential losses. No casualty was recorded,” Adeseye said.
She added that the cause of the fire has not yet been established and is currently under investigation.

Earlier on Friday, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency also confirmed that another potential disaster was prevented after emergency responders safely contained a leaking Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) tanker at Owode Elede, inward Onirin, along Ikorodu Road.
The agency said the tanker developed a fault in the early hours of the day, but swift intervention by emergency responders prevented an explosion, with no casualty recorded in the incident.
