Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA, has inspected the ongoing reconstruction of the 34-kilometre Ikorodu-Itoikin Road and the 4.5-kilometre Itoikin-Ijebu Ode Road, expressing satisfaction with the pace of work while reaffirming his commitment to ensuring the successful completion of the critical infrastructure projects.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the inspection tour, conducted on Saturday, saw the senator assess the progress of construction works and engage with engineers and project officials to ensure that the projects remain on schedule.
Speaking during the visit, Senator Abiru disclosed that substantial progress has been achieved on the Ikorodu-Itoikin Road. According to him, reconstruction has extended to nearly seven kilometres from the Sabo Roundabout axis towards Itoikin, while approximately 4.5 kilometres have been completed from the Itoikin end towards Ikorodu. He added that work is continuing steadily on the remaining sections.
The senator described the road as a vital economic corridor that connects communities across Ikorodu Division and parts of Epe Division, stressing that its completion would ease transportation, enhance commercial activities and improve the daily lives of residents.
“I am encouraged by the progress recorded so far and will continue to engage and closely monitor these projects to ensure they are completed for the benefit of our people,” he said.
For years, the Ikorodu-Itoikin Road has posed serious challenges to motorists and residents due to its deteriorated condition, resulting in prolonged travel time and increased transportation costs. The ongoing reconstruction is expected to address these concerns and restore efficient movement along the corridor.
Senator Abiru noted that the rehabilitation of the road is a product of sustained advocacy and engagements with the Federal Government, aimed at attracting critical infrastructure projects to Lagos East Senatorial District.
He reiterated his resolve to continue pursuing development initiatives that improve connectivity, stimulate economic growth and enhance the welfare of constituents.
“Our commitment to the sustainable development of Lagos East remains unwavering. We will continue to advocate for and monitor projects that will bring lasting benefits to our communities,” the senator stated.
The inspection reflects the senator’s continued oversight of key infrastructure projects designed to accelerate development and improve transportation networks across Lagos East.
