He said the new platform would commence operations on Wednesday, July 8, through INEC’s Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) portal, where prospective voters would receive instructions on how to complete the process.

According to him, the initiative allows first-time voters to begin and complete their registration remotely, including biometric data capture, using personal devices without the need to visit INEC offices.
Abubakar-Sadiq explained that the system was designed with identity authentication measures, biometric verification and other security checks to protect the accuracy and reliability of the National Register of Voters.
He said the introduction of the platform reflected INEC’s efforts to embrace technology, expand access and improve the overall voter registration experience for citizens.
However, the REC clarified that individuals who had already started physical registration, those seeking transfer of voting locations, and applicants replacing damaged or missing Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) would still need to visit designated INEC centres.

The commission also approved a two-week extension for the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration exercise.
Abubakar-Sadiq disclosed that the final phase of the registration exercise, which was earlier expected to end on July 10, would now continue until July 26.
He explained that the extension was approved after consultations with INEC state offices, political parties, civil society groups and other stakeholders who provided feedback on the exercise.
The REC said the additional time would allow more eligible Nigerians who had not registered to be captured in the voters’ register before future elections.

He noted that the CVR exercise began on August 18, 2025, adding that previous phases recorded a strong turnout in Nasarawa State, including participation by persons living with disabilities.
The INEC official encouraged residents who were yet to register to take advantage of the extended deadline and the new online platform.
He assured Nigerians that the commission remained committed to delivering a transparent, inclusive and credible registration process through improved use of technology.
Abubakar-Sadiq also commended the media, political parties, civil society organisations, security agencies and other partners for their support in promoting democratic participation.
