FMC Epe Holds Maiden Stakeholders' Meeting to Strengthen

FMC Epe held its maiden stakeholders’ meeting to strengthen collaboration and improve healthcare delivery across Epe Division.

The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Epe, has taken a significant step towards strengthening public confidence and improving healthcare delivery with the maiden edition of its Stakeholders’ Engagement Forum, bringing together traditional rulers, political office holders, healthcare professionals, community representatives and other stakeholders to discuss the future of healthcare in Epe Division.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the meeting, held on Thursday, July 23, created a platform for open dialogue between the hospital’s management and members of the public, allowing stakeholders to assess the institution’s progress, identify challenges and make recommendations aimed at enhancing healthcare services.

Addressing participants, the Medical Director of FMC Epe, Dr. Adesola Kaka, appreciated the people of Epe Division for their unwavering support since the establishment of the medical centre, describing the partnership between the hospital and the host communities as critical to its growth.

“The journey of building a standard tertiary healthcare institution cannot be achieved without the support of our communities. We are grateful for the confidence you have shown in us, and we remain committed to providing quality, accessible and patient-focused healthcare,” he said.

Dr. Kaka highlighted some of the hospital’s achievements since it commenced operations, including improvements in clinical services, expansion of facilities, enhanced patient care and the introduction of initiatives aimed at raising healthcare standards.

According to him, the stakeholders’ meeting was conceived to institutionalise regular engagement with the public and ensure that the management remains accountable to the people it serves.

“We want this hospital to be driven by collaboration. Your observations, suggestions and support will help us build a stronger institution that truly meets the healthcare needs of our people,” he added.

Delivering the keynote address titled “Making FMC Epe Work for All: A Shared Responsibility for Building Trust, Improving Service and Enhancing Patient Care,” Mrs. Anjous Ademuyiwa stressed the importance of collective responsibility in achieving an effective healthcare system.

“Healthcare delivery thrives when government, healthcare professionals and the people work together. Building trust and improving patient care require the commitment of every stakeholder,” she said.

She encouraged residents to embrace preventive healthcare practices, utilise available medical services and support the continued development of the medical centre.

The Oloja of Epe Land, His Royal Majesty Oba Kamorudeen Ishola Animashaun, commended the management of FMC Epe for the remarkable progress recorded within a short period, describing the institution as a valuable asset to the entire division.

“We have seen encouraging progress, and I urge our people to continue supporting this institution because quality healthcare is in everyone’s interest,” the monarch stated.

The royal father also cautioned against harassment or intimidation of healthcare personnel.

“Our doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers deserve respect. Anyone who interferes with them while carrying out their lawful duties will face the consequences of the law,” he warned.

Former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly and member of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), Rt. Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji, praised the initiative, describing it as a model for strengthening community participation in healthcare governance.

“This forum reflects transparency and accountability. It gives stakeholders a voice and creates an opportunity to build a stronger relationship between the hospital and the communities it serves,” he said.

He urged governments, corporate organisations, philanthropists and well-meaning individuals to support the continued expansion of the hospital, pledging his commitment to initiatives that would improve healthcare delivery in Epe Division.

During the interactive session, participants raised issues relating to patient care, hospital infrastructure, staffing, emergency services, accessibility and collaboration with Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs), while offering suggestions on improving service delivery.

Responding to the concerns, Dr. Kaka assured stakeholders that management would carefully review every recommendation.

“We have listened carefully to your concerns and recommendations. They will guide us as we continue to improve our services and build a healthcare institution that meets global standards while remaining responsive to the needs of our communities,” he assured.

The meeting ended with stakeholders expressing confidence in the leadership of FMC Epe and pledging continued support for the hospital’s vision of delivering quality, accessible and sustainable healthcare services across Epe Division.
