After years of failed negotiations, changing promoters and repeated setbacks, Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are now just days away from potentially setting up one of the biggest fights in British boxing history.

The long awaited heavyweight showdown, however, remains dependent on both fighters successfully coming through separate comeback bouts this weekend.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Fury is scheduled to return to the ring today, July 24, when he takes on Polish veteran Mariusz Wach in an untelevised 10 round bout at the Max Muay Thai Stadium in Pattaya, Thailand.

The 37 year old former heavyweight world champion will face a vastly experienced opponent who is now 46 and has lost seven of his last 10 fights.

Fury weighed in at 265lbs, while Wach came in at 291.4lbs, giving the Polish fighter a significant weight advantage over the Briton.

A defeat for Fury would rank among the biggest upsets in heavyweight boxing, particularly after he ended his retirement in April with a comfortable points victory over Arslanbek Makhmudov.

The victory marked Fury’s return following successive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk.

Less than 24 hours after Fury’s bout, attention will shift to Saudi Arabia, where Joshua is scheduled to face Albanian born heavyweight Kristian Prenga on Saturday night, July 25.

The fight will be Joshua’s first appearance since he survived a car crash in Nigeria last December that claimed the lives of his close friends, Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele.

The 36 year old former two time heavyweight champion enters the contest with a professional record of 29 wins and four defeats, including 26 victories by knockout.

His opponent, Prenga, boasts a 20 1 professional record and has stopped all 20 of his previous opponents.

Fury is expected to travel to Saudi Arabia immediately after his fight in Thailand if he secures victory. The Briton could then enter the ring for a face off with Joshua, potentially providing the first major public build up to their proposed blockbuster showdown.
