The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has said he is confident the party’s presidential flag bearer, Peter Obi, will fulfil his pledge to serve only one four-year term if elected president in 2027.
Speaking during an interview on News Central’s 60 Minutes with Mr Kay, Eko Hot Blog reports that Kwankwaso said Obi had made the commitment publicly and there was no reason to question his sincerity.

He described Obi as a trustworthy leader, noting that the promise was made openly before Nigerians and should be respected.
Kwankwaso explained that the NDC coalition was built on trust among its members and that the agreement on power rotation formed part of the alliance’s understanding.
According to him, coalition members believe the South should complete an eight-year presidency, making Obi’s proposed single term consistent with that arrangement.
He added that the coalition had already developed short-, medium- and long-term plans for the country, stressing that its focus goes beyond any individual seeking office.
Kwankwaso said the alliance was committed to implementing its shared agenda regardless of who eventually becomes president, whether Obi, himself or another member of the coalition.
He maintained that the coalition would ensure continuity of its programmes and policies in line with the agreement reached by its members.
