PSG Defeat Aston Villa to Win UEFA Super Cup

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the match brought together PSG, the reigning Champions League winners, and Aston Villa, winners of the Europa League, at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg.

PSG took the lead in the 20th minute through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who finished from close range after the French side kept the attack alive.

Aston Villa responded just before half time when 17 year old Madjo scored with a left footed volley under pressure to restore parity.

PSG regained the lead in the 61st minute through Doué. The forward was played through on the edge of offside before curling a left footed effort past goalkeeper Bizot.

The goal was reviewed by VAR before it was confirmed, giving PSG a 2-1 advantage.

Aston Villa pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages but could not find a way past the PSG defence.

Buendia came close in added time when he reached the near post but sent his header wide.

Earlier, Villa had created several opportunities, with Madjo going close with a header in the 28th minute before missing another chance seven minutes later.

John McGinn also tested PSG goalkeeper Safonov in the second half, but the effort was saved.

PSG held on to secure another European trophy and continue their strong run on the continental stage.

Both clubs had previously won the UEFA Super Cup once. PSG claimed the trophy in 2025 after defeating Tottenham 6-5 on penalties, while Aston Villa won the competition in 1982 after overcoming Barcelona 3-0 after extra time in the second leg.
