The Federal Government has restated its commitment to improving national security, leveraging the Nigerian diaspora for economic development and strengthening international partnerships based on mutual trust and respect.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaye, disclosed this during the Dinner Night of the Nigerian Diaspora Economic Conference in Toronto, Canada.
His remarks were contained in a statement issued on Sunday by Richard Elesho, Special Assistant on Media and Strategic Communications to the minister.
Enikanolaye acknowledged that insecurity remains a major challenge facing the country but said the Federal Government was pursuing several measures to address the problem.
He said the administration was working to contain security threats through a multifaceted approach, particularly given the persistence of the challenges over the past decade.
The minister also highlighted Nigeria’s growing strategic engagement with international partners, including the United States.
He said recent discussions with American officials were focused on securing practical outcomes for Nigerians in areas including security, defence, economic prosperity and general welfare.
Turning to the Nigerian diaspora, Enikanolaye said the Tinubu administration considers Nigerians living abroad an important resource for national development rather than a burden on the government.
He noted that Nigerians in the diaspora possess valuable skills, expertise and resources that could be deployed to support the country’s development priorities.
The minister therefore called for stronger cooperation between Nigerians at home and abroad, urging citizens to overcome divisions based on ethnicity, religion and tribal identity.
He said greater cooperation should focus on initiatives that promote production, economic growth, development and prosperity.
Enikanolaye also commended Canada and other international partners for their contributions towards building stronger relationships with Nigeria.
He expressed optimism that future engagements would produce more productive partnerships founded on mutual respect and shared interests.
The minister thanked the organisers of the conference and members of the Nigerian diaspora for their contributions to the country, reaffirming the government’s determination to work with stakeholders in advancing Nigeria’s national interests.
