President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election, saying the outcome of the governorship poll demonstrates that Nigeria’s democratic system remains strong.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that Tinubu conveyed his message in a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, after the August 15 election.
The President said he had personally spoken with Adeleke by telephone to congratulate him on securing another term in office.
According to Tinubu, the result showed that the people of Osun State had renewed their confidence in the governor.
He urged Adeleke to use his second term to bring the people together, irrespective of their political affiliations, and focus on improving stability, economic development and social welfare across the state.
Tinubu also praised the other candidates who contested the election, commending them for participating in the democratic process.
He said their involvement contributed to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic culture and described the election result as an expression of the electorate’s choice.
The President further commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for overseeing what he described as a peaceful and transparent election.
Adeleke, who contested under the platform of the Accord Party, was declared winner at about 7:24 a.m. on Sunday by the Returning Officer, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti.
The governor secured 511,067 votes to defeat APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.
Adeleke won in 19 of Osun’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victory in the remaining 11. ADC candidate Najeem Salaam finished third with 17,180 votes.
The result gives Adeleke another four years in office after he initially won the governorship election in 2022 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
He later left the PDP and contested the 2026 election under the Accord Party.
Adeleke had earlier expressed appreciation to Tinubu for reaching out to congratulate him, while also reaffirming his support for the President’s bid to secure another term in 2027.
The Osun governor described Tinubu as a “son of Osun State” in acknowledging the President’s congratulatory gesture.
