Allow Us To Sell Our Goods, Ilasan Estate Traders Tell Police
It was like a film-shooting location yesterday, 5 May 2020, when policemen started beating dealers of goods and services at the Ilasan Jakande first gate market, vendors were begging for mercy while customers ran for dear life.

The report reaching us was that the policemen were expecting the goods sellers not to display their wares yesterday as they felt that one of the new rules of lockdown relaxation by the Lagos state government is that traders at any market should take selling and buying process as one day on and one day off.
One of the traders whose kiosk is located in the market, Mr. Ibrahim Semiu, told our reporter that the policemen came around 3 0’clock in the afternoon and caught people in the market unawares. He added that they did not address anyone, instead, they started beating whoever they moved close to which later made people start running helter-skelter.
“We were not told that selling and buying are in rotation now,” he said.
Another goods vendor that sells food condiments and other edible products, Mrs. Tosin Anuoluwapo, said if she had known, she wouldn’t have displayed her wares.
“No light to listen to the radio, if not so I would have heard the information from ‘Koko Iwe Iroyin’,” she said.
As the police officers had left before our reporter reached the scene, he then decided to interview the chairman of the Community Development Association (CDA).
The CDA chairman, Mr. Kazeem Sulaiman, said he felt that the instruction of the policemen was that no one should remain in the market till 3 0′ clock. He moved further to say that he would still go to the police station to confirm what the case is really about.
“Everyone should be calm, there is no cause for alarm,” he said.
