Factional National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, has advised Seriake Dickson, founder of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), to exercise caution in his political relationship with Peter Obi and his supporters.
In a statement issued on Monday, Eko Hot Blog reports that Abure said Dickson’s reported decision not to cede all party positions to Obi’s allies was a prudent move that could help the NDC avoid the leadership disputes that have troubled other political parties.

Drawing from his experience in the Labour Party, Abure said the party encountered significant internal challenges following the 2022 and 2023 election cycles.
According to him, several individuals who secured elective positions on the party’s platform later became involved in struggles over the control and direction of the party.

He noted that many candidates were offered opportunities to contest elections under the Labour Party with the expectation that they would contribute to strengthening the party after assuming office.
However, he alleged that some instead became engaged in disputes over party structures and leadership positions.
Abure argued that political organisations should avoid concentrating control in the hands of a single bloc, stressing the importance of maintaining a balance of interests to ensure stability and effective management.
The Labour Party chieftain said the experiences of his party should serve as a lesson for other political leaders and organisations seeking to build sustainable political structures.

He maintained that party leadership should preserve a broad-based structure capable of accommodating different interests and viewpoints, rather than allowing any single group to dominate key positions.
Abure further claimed that the internal conflicts witnessed within the Labour Party underscored the need for political leaders to be strategic when making decisions about party administration and representation.
His remarks come amid ongoing discussions surrounding political realignments and party-building efforts ahead of future electoral contests.
