He reaffirmed loyalty to Peter Obi and Labour Party ahead of 2027.

He remains open to serving as Obi’s running mate again.
The 2023 vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Datti Baba-Ahmed, has criticised the newly formed opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying the alliance is “deceiving Nigerians” with promises of rescuing the nation from underdevelopment.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Baba-Ahmed made the remark on Friday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he dismissed the credibility of the political realignment spearheaded by the ADC.
The coalition, which has been holding consultations with political heavyweights including former Senate President David Mark, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna governor Nasir el-Rufai, former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, and former Osun governor Rauf Aregbesola, has positioned itself as a platform to challenge the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections.
But Baba-Ahmed, who ran alongside Peter Obi in the 2023 election, maintained his loyalty to the former Anambra governor and stressed that Obi must remain in the Labour Party and contest again in 2027.
“I’m in the Labour Party. I’m a Peter Obi man. I still want Peter Obi to come back to the Labour Party and contest the 2027 election,” he said.
When asked if he would be willing to serve again as Obi’s running mate, Baba-Ahmed said he was open to it, but only if Nigeria’s electoral system survives.
He explained, “If Nigeria is still around and there is an electoral system to follow. My love for Nigeria is undying, and I would appropriately associate with groups and individuals that are like-minded to restore Nigeria.”

The former senator further revealed that there were only two individuals he would consider deputising, noting, “The first one has not said anything. The second one is Peter Obi. I’m always with Peter Obi until he decides not to.”
