The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has demanded the immediate suspension of Nigeria’s newly enacted tax laws, alleging that major provisions were altered after approval by the National Assembly and assent by President Bola Tinubu.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the party raised the alarm in a statement released on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, describing the alleged post-approval changes as a serious constitutional violation.

The ADC’s position followed a motion raised in the House of Representatives by Hon. Abdussamad Dasuki, who highlighted discrepancies between the bills passed by lawmakers and the versions later made public.

The opposition party insisted that the implementation of the tax laws should be halted to allow lawmakers review the alleged modifications and address any irregularities.
According to the ADC, a review of the original bills and the gazetted copies allegedly revealed the removal of key accountability clauses and the insertion of new sections granting sweeping enforcement powers to the Executive.

The party argued that such actions, if confirmed, amount to an erosion of democratic principles and a violation of the doctrine of separation of powers.
ADC further called for a comprehensive investigation and the prosecution of any official found responsible, warning that tampering with laws after legislative approval poses a grave threat to constitutional governance.
