The Federal Government has commended Nigerians living in the United States for their continued commitment to the country’s growth and development.
The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, gave the commendation while speaking at a joint virtual meeting organised by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission and the Nigeria Centre in Washington.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Gbajabiamila urged members of the Nigerian diaspora to consistently draw global attention to national issues, particularly recent developments affecting the country.
He acknowledged that Nigeria is facing serious violence in some regions but stressed that the situation requires unity rather than division.
According to him, cooperation and focused efforts, not blame or discord, are crucial to addressing the country’s security challenges.
Gbajabiamila recalled how the United States responded to the September 11 attacks, urging Nigerians to unite against insurgency irrespective of ethnic or religious differences.
Also speaking, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, dismissed claims describing the situation in Nigeria as “genocide,” describing such narratives as misleading.
He said the security challenges are largely driven by regional conflicts and warned that misdiagnosing the problem would lead to ineffective solutions.
Tuggar identified contributing factors including the collapse of Libya under Muammar Gaddafi, the failure of the EU Sahel strategy, and previous restrictions on arms sales to Nigeria.
He reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to the 4D Agenda of Democracy, Development, Demography, and Diaspora.
The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NiDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said sustained engagement with the diaspora was vital, noting that dialogue promotes understanding and collaboration.
She said all recommendations from the meeting would be compiled into a communiqué and submitted to the President through the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Gbenga Ogunjimi of the Nigeria Centre in Washington, who moderated the session, stressed that diplomacy must extend beyond government relations to include Nigeria’s global communities.
Representatives of diaspora groups called for stronger collaboration with the government and pledged their support toward finding lasting solutions to Nigeria’s challenges.
