The African Democratic Congress has set up a high powered committee to engage influential political figures across opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, as it intensifies efforts to build a broad based coalition to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that a senior party official disclosed that the committee’s mandate cuts across party lines and is aimed at strengthening opposition collaboration nationwide. The source said the engagements are being handled discreetly and are not targeted at any single individual or party.
The move comes amid reports that the ADC is courting the national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Kwankwaso had recently stated in Kano that he was open to joining any opposition coalition willing to offer him either the presidential or vice presidential ticket.
However, senior ADC sources said the party leadership has made it clear to the Kwankwaso camp that no such assurances can be given. According to one source, the party would not promise either the presidential or vice presidential ticket to anyone.
“It was clearly stated that there will be no offer of either the presidential or vice presidential ticket from the party leadership to anyone,” the source said.
The ADC emerged in July 2025 as the coalition platform adopted by opposition leaders seeking to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027. Since then, the party, under the leadership of National Chairman David Mark and National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola, has focused on consolidating its structures and boosting public confidence.
Several high profile figures have since aligned with the ADC, including former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi.
Party insiders said the ADC is proposing an inclusive government model that would accommodate Kwankwaso and his support base through strategic appointments rather than ticket guarantees. David Mark is also expected to personally engage Kwankwaso to discuss alternative terms.

ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi declined to comment on the committee but said the party would continue expanding its membership. Meanwhile, the NNPP confirmed ongoing consultations with other political groups, noting that a formal position would be announced later.
