The Lagos State Informal Space Management Authority (LASISMA) has given traders, squatters and other illegal occupants around the newly constructed Ojo General Hospital seven days to vacate the area.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the enforcement exercise began on Monday around the hospital, located along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway near the LASU-Iba Road junction.

LASISMA officials issued contravention notices to occupants of areas identified as setbacks and corridors reserved for the hospital and other government infrastructure.
The authority said full enforcement would begin after the expiration of the seven-day ultimatum.
Speaking with journalists after the exercise, LASISMA General Manager, Oludaisi Oso, said the move was aimed at reclaiming public spaces and protecting areas designated for government facilities.
He said officials found an illegal refuse dump, an unauthorised fruit market, public toilets, a wood market and structures occupied by squatters around the hospital.
Oso warned that the activities could create serious health, security and environmental challenges, especially when the hospital becomes fully operational.
He also raised concerns about emergency access, noting that encroachments could delay patients who require urgent medical attention.
According to him, the state government is also concerned about the health risks posed by the refuse dump and other activities operating close to the hospital.
Oso said the enforcement was part of a wider government plan to reclaim public spaces that have been illegally occupied around government schools, hospitals and other public facilities across Lagos.
He stressed that the government was not against legitimate businesses but insisted that traders must operate from approved markets and other designated locations.
“Government is not saying people should not get involved in doing their businesses. What we are saying is that they should go and do it in those places that have been created for the purpose,” he said.
Oso warned that road setbacks and spaces belonging to public institutions could no longer be converted into markets, workshops or other informal business areas.
He said Monday’s exercise was primarily for sensitisation and the issuance of notices, adding that enforcement teams would return after seven days.
The LASISMA boss also disclosed that the government plans to redevelop the areas around the hospital with facilities that will support its operations.
He urged affected occupants to comply with the directive and advised traders seeking new locations to approach the appropriate government authorities for allocation of approved spaces.
