Kachikwu accuses the group of focusing only on regaining power.
The 2023 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dumebi Kachikwu, has alleged that a faction of the party, led by former Senate President David Mark, was deliberately structured to pave the way for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s presidential bid in 2027.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking to journalists in Abuja on Thursday, Kachikwu said the coalition was driven by a clear agenda to reclaim political power and position Atiku as the party’s flag bearer in the next presidential election.
He stated that members of the coalition openly expressed their primary interest during his meeting with them, emphasizing their desire to regain political dominance.
According to Kachikwu, “The coalition was engineered and designed to produce Atiku Abubakar as the standard flag bearer. If that is not the case, I challenge them to make a public statement that the ADC 2027 presidential ticket will be zoned to the South.”
He further accused the group of having no genuine interest in broadening the party’s democratic structure but only focusing on returning power to their circle.
“All they kept saying during my meeting with them was that they wanted to take their power back,” he added.

Kachikwu’s comments have raised fresh concerns about internal power struggles and regional considerations within the ADC as the political race towards 2027 intensifies.
