In a recent interview on the BBC Sounds podcast Witness History, Ekkachai confirmed their split but expressed pride in their 58-hour, 35-minute record-breaking kiss.
“It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” he said. “We spent a long time together, and I’m trying to remember the good memories and that we did this together.”

The couple first claimed the record in 2011 with a 46-hour kiss but lost the title the following year. Determined to reclaim it, they participated in the grueling 2013 competition, adhering to strict rules.
They had to stay awake, keep their lips locked even during bathroom breaks, and pass water from mouth to mouth to stay hydrated.
Ekkachai recalled how physically exhausting the challenge was. “We tried to stand straight like statues… We were tapping each other on the head and hugging to keep awake,” he said.

The final hours were an intense showdown between the last two couples. Ekkachai remembered the moment he knew they had won: “When the other couple’s lips parted, I realized we had won.”
Despite their record-breaking achievement, Ekkachai admitted that it was an unusual feat. “Only crazy people would accomplish something like that. A normal person wouldn’t try it.”
