Mane To Lead Senegal As Mahrez Captains Algeria To Cup Defense
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Senegal and Algeria national team managers have selected their players for the African Cup of Nations
Senegal national team manager, Aliou Cissé, announced his 27-man squad competing in Cameroon.
The squad parades world-class players such as Liverpool’s Sadio Mane, Watford’s Ismaila Sarr, Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy, Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly, Bayern Munich’s Bouna Sarr, and Paris Saint-Germain’s Idrissa Gana Gueye.
The last edition’s runner-ups are off to a relatively easy start as they will be playing alongside Zimbabwe, Guinea and Malawi in Group B.
The Lions of Teranga, who are among the favourites to win the title, will start their AFCON journey on January 10 when they clash with Zimbabwe.
Meanwhile, Riyadh Mahrez has been handed the captain band as Algeria begins to defend its African Cup of Nations crown next month, at the tournament in Cameroon.
The Manchester City attacker is one of 15 players from the squad that won the last finals in 2019 to return for the delayed 2021 edition, where Algeria competes in Group E against Equatorial Guinea, the Ivory Coast and Sierra Leone.
Algeria begins the defence of its crown against Sierra Leone on January 11 in Douala.
