AFCON: Mbappe Picks African Player As Best Right-Back In The World

EKO HOT BLOG reports that PSG star, Kylian Mbappe, has named his club teammate, Achraf Hakimi as “the best right-back in the world” following his stunning freekick that ensured ‘the Atlas Lions’ progressed to the round-of-16 of the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Tuesday.

A sensational free-kick from Hakimi lifted Morocco to a 2-1 win over Malawi and into the AFCON quarter-finals.

Malawi’s Gabadinho Mhango gave his nation a shock lead in the first half with arguably the goal of the tournament from 35-yards out, but a thumping header from Youssef El Nesyri and Hakimi’s set-piece booked Morocco’s place in the last eight.

Vahid Halilhodzic’s side, considered one of the favourites to win the tournament, will play Ivory Coast or Egypt in the next round.

Meanwhile, Hakimi has paid tribute to the eight people who died in a stampede at the Olembe Stadium after the Cameroon-Comoros game on Monday.

Expressing his concern about the unfortunate incident, Hakimi wrote on his verified Twitter handle: “Eight people who died yesterday at Olembe Stadium will always be in our memory. Football takes a back seat today despite it is happy day for our country after the classification to quarterfinals of Africa Nations Cup. Rest in peace.”
