AfDB to Collaborate LAMATA on Development of Lagos 60km Purple Rail Line

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has announced its intention to collaborate with the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) to enhance the state’s transportation system through the development of an additional rail line.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that LAMATA’s Head of Corporate Communication, Kolawole Ojelabi, AfDB’s Vice President of Private Sector Infrastructure and Industrialisation, Solomon Quaynor, expressed the bank’s interest in partnering with LAMATA during a recent visit.

Quaynor emphasized the AfDB’s commitment to expanding the capacity of Lagos’ existing rail system, which aligns with the bank’s broader strategy to promote sustainable infrastructure development across Africa.
“Quaynor was also in the company of the Non-Sovereign Operations and Private Sector Equity Specialist, Mr Mayowa Ayodele ahead of a visit of the technical team to assess the Purple line,” he said.
The Purple Line is a proposed 60-kilometer rail project that will connect Redemption Camp in Ogun State to key areas in Lagos State, such as Berger, Agege, and Alimosho. The rail line will terminate at Volkswagen, where it will join the Blue Line.

“The visit follows a recent pitch for investment on 60-kilometre Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Purple Line at the African Development Bank forum in Morocco, where the Lagos delegation was led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
“This is to further discuss collaboration on the project and other lines outlined in the Lagos Strategic Transport Master Plan. The delegation toured the LRMT Blue Line and expressed satisfaction with the progress of the Blue Line rail system,” he said.
