Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has dismissed rumors of a rift between him and President Bola Tinubu, referring to their relationship as a “father-and-son affair.”

Eko Hot Blog reports that this statement comes in the wake of several controversies, including the impeachment of former Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, who was later controversially reinstated.

The Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), the highest decision-making body of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos, joined Governor Sanwo-Olu in a meeting with President Tinubu at his private residence in Ikoyi.

Sanwo-Olu’s public denial of any discord between him and Tinubu aims to quell speculation about potential fractures within the ruling APC in Lagos State.

The governor’s statement comes in response to recent events, including his absence from the flag-off of the reconstruction of the deep seaport access road in Epe and an alleged snub by Tinubu during the inauguration of the completed phase 1 of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway.

“There is none. There are people Catholic than the Pope; they cry more than the bereaved,” he said.

“Father and son (affairs) are things that we always ensure that we clear. There is nothing at all.

“He is my father and my leader, and we are grateful that he has given us the audience to say hello to him today,” he added.

Also in attendance were Sanwo-Olu’s deputy, Obafemi Hamzat; Obasa and his deputy, Mojisola Meranda; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; among other powerbrokers in Lagos politics.
