Eko Hot Blog reports that after sixth day of the ongoing African Games in Ghana, Team Nigeria maintains the second position on the medal table.
Nigeria holds the second position on the medals table with a total of 54 medals, including 22 gold, 13 silver, and 19 bronze. Egypt leads the table with 103 medals, consisting of 61 gold, 22 silver, and 20 bronze.

Following their absence from the podium in the table tennis event, Team Nigeria had to wait until Day 3 of the competition on Sunday, to secure seven gold medals.
A gold medal from badminton and six from wrestling ensured the country moved up in the medals table.
Anuoluwapo Opeyori, the champion of the African Games, opened Nigeria’s medal haul by triumphing over compatriot Godwin Olofua with a 2-1 victory in the men’s singles final of the badminton event. His win not only defended his title but also secured Nigeria’s inaugural gold at the ongoing games in Ghana.
A few hours later, it was a clean sweep as Nigeria claimed all the available gold medals in the women’s wrestling event.
Firstly, Mercy Genesis defeated Egyptian wrestler Nada Mohammed to clinch gold in the women’s 50kg freestyle.
Christiana Ogunsanya secured Nigeria’s second wrestling gold in the 53kg division by defeating her Ivorian rival, Bakayoko. Following that, Adekuoroye Odunayo, a three-time Commonwealth champion, clinched the third gold for Nigeria in the 57kg finals by defeating Zineb Hassoune in a swift 24-second bout.
Esther Kolawole, Blessing Oborududu and Hannah Reuben all overpowered their opponents to clinch gold medals in the 62kg, 68kg and 76kg respectively.
On Day 4, Team Nigeria won three more gold in the weightlifting event through Edidiong Umoafia.
In the 67kg category, Umoafia showcased dominance, achieving the top position by lifting 135kg in the snatch and 165kg in the clean and jerk, totaling 300kg.
On Tuesday, Team Nigeria further solidified their position as the second-best team on the table, boasting a total of 12 gold medals.
Ruth Ayodele and Joy Eze clinched three gold medals each in the 64kg and 71kg categories, respectively, at the GCB Hall of the University of Ghana. Following suit, Adijat Olarinoye, Rofiatu Lawal, and Joy Ogbonne secured hat-tricks of gold medals in the weightlifting event.
With 15 gold medals from weightlifting, six from wrestling and one from badminton, Team Nigeria took their tally to 22 gold medals.
It was a slow day for Nigeria as they claimed only three silver and five bronze medals on Day 6 of the event.
Altogether, the country has won 54 medals, with 13 silver and 19 bronze medals.

Nigeria are still distant behind Egypt who leads with 103 medals (61 gold, 22 silver, and 20 bronze), followed by Algeria in third place with 71 medals (19 gold, 24 silver, and 28 bronze).
South Africa holds the fourth position with 19 gold, 20 silver, and 32 bronze medals. Tunisia occupies fifth place with six gold, 18 silver, and 19 bronze medals.
