South African superstar singer, AKA has asked Afro-fusion singer, Burna Boy to apologise to South Africa ahead of his performance in Cape Town, even though their country is “not perfect.”
AKA’s comment came hours after some artistes in South Africa protested against Burna Boy’s inclusion in “The Africans Unite Concerts” scheduled for 22nd and 23rd, November.
The concert is a response to recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa and is organised by Play Network Africa in partnership with the Phambili Media SA.

The protesting artists under the aegis of Tshwane Collective, in a letter to the minister of Art and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa, said, “Whoever may have deemed that the country needs a PR exercise of this nature would have done so largely as a result of the callous, misleading and unwarranted incitement by this very artist.
“Not only did he spread falsehoods through his extensive platform, he literally incited violence and hate. He further promised to inflict his own violence on locals before giving your government an ultimatum which you seem to have received and succumbed to”
Recall that Burna Boy AKA had also clashed on Twitter over xenophobic attacks and the afrobeat star on September 3 vowed not to visit South Africa.
“I will not ever go to South Africa again for any reason until the South African government wakes the fuck up and really performs a miracle,” he said.
However, AKA in a tweet asked Burna Boy to prove he is truly African Giant by apologising to citizens of South Africa.
“Ek se … @burnaboy all we want is an apology. We know South Africa is not perfect. But we took you in as our own before you reached these levels. You say you are an AFRICAN GIANT, prove it,” AKA tweeted.
