Spanish tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz secured his maiden Monte Carlo Masters title on Sunday, defeating Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in a thrilling comeback: 3-6, 6-1, 6-0.
The victory marks the 21-year-old’s sixth career Masters 1000 title and his most significant win since lifting the Wimbledon trophy last year. It also bumps him up to No. 2 in the world rankings, overtaking Alexander Zverev.
“I’m just really happy to have won Monte Carlo for the first time,” Alcaraz said after the match. “It’s been a very difficult month for me, both on and off the court. But I’m proud of how I handled everything this week. All the hard work has paid off.”
Alcaraz had previously exited in the first round during his only other appearance at the Monte Carlo tournament in 2022. This year, he returned with renewed determination and navigated a tough draw to reach the final.
Musetti, who had a dream run in the tournament—toppling top-10 stars Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alex de Minaur—started strong, taking the first set 6-3. But the Italian began struggling physically in the second set, and Alcaraz seized the momentum.
With aggressive shot-making and relentless energy, Alcaraz dominated the second set 6-1. Musetti then received treatment for a leg issue while trailing 0-3 in the third. Although he fought on, he couldn’t match Alcaraz’s pace and precision.

“Lorenzo has had a fantastic week,” Alcaraz acknowledged. “It’s tough to end the tournament like this, but I hope his injury isn’t serious and he recovers quickly.”
Despite the loss, Musetti can take pride in his performance, which propels him to a career-high No. 11 in the ATP rankings.
“This has probably been one of the best tournaments of my career,” Musetti said. “It’s disappointing not to finish the way I wanted, especially for the crowd. But I’ll keep working and come back stronger.”
With the clay season heating up, all eyes now turn to Roland Garros, where both players will look to build on their Monte Carlo momentu.
