EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Sweden international required an operation on an ankle injury which involved a fractured fibula. While Liverpool did not give a specific timeline for his return, the 26 year old is expected to be sidelined for at least several months.
Isak suffered the injury during Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Tottenham on Saturday.
The striker came on as a second half substitute and made an immediate impact by scoring for Arne Slot’s side. Moments later, the situation turned concerning after a challenge from Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven.
The collision occurred immediately after Isak struck the ball for his goal. He was unable to continue the match and was visibly in pain as medical personnel helped him off the pitch.
The injury represents a significant setback for Liverpool, particularly given Isak’s status as the club’s record signing following his £125 million transfer from Newcastle during the summer window. Since his arrival at Anfield in September, the striker has recorded three goals in 16 appearances across all competitions.
The development also compounds a difficult period for Isak.
During the off season, he was excluded from Newcastle’s pre season tour of Asia due to what was described as a minor thigh issue, amid uncertainty surrounding his future. He later trained individually at former club Real Sociedad before completing his move to Liverpool on deadline day.
Liverpool are expected to provide further updates on his rehabilitation in the coming weeks.
