America Warns Residents Against Planting Strange Seeds Received From China
The United States Department of Agriculture has warned its citizens not to handle or plant strange agricultural seeds received from mails appearing to have originated from China.
The department received questions from New Yorkers who have received unsolicited packages, appearing to be sent from China, that are marked as containing jewelry or other items but which actually contain plant seeds.
The department said similar packages have been reported in other states and that the USDA is investigating.
“People who receive seeds should not plant or handle the seeds. They should mail the seeds, the original packaging, contact info, and any additional details to the USDA at:
Office of the State Plant Health Director of NY

“Seeds imported into the United States are rigorously tested to ensure quality and prevent introduction of invasive species, insects and plant diseases.”
