EKO HOT BLOG reports that the exercise also saw a number of outgoing governors successfully backing preferred successors through consensus arrangements in their respective states.
Governors who emerged unopposed as APC governorship candidates included Dauda Lawal in Zamfara, Umaru Bago in Niger, Dikko Radda in Katsina, Nasir Idris in Kebbi, Ahmad Aliyu in Sokoto, Sheriff Oborevwori in Delta, Uba Sani in Kaduna, Umo Eno in Akwa Ibom, and Umar Namadi in Jigawa.
Also emerging as consensus candidates were Lagos Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, Senator Olamilekan Adeola in Ogun State, Kingsley Chinda in Rivers State, and Mustapha Gubio in Borno State.
In Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, former governorship candidate Tonye Cole and Dakorinama George-Kelly withdrew from the race, clearing the path for Chinda to emerge as the sole aspirant.
Despite the successful emergence of candidates in several states, the primaries recorded controversies and disruptions in some areas.
In Kwara State, the APC national headquarters halted the governorship primary midway through the exercise and rescheduled it for Friday.
Taraba State also witnessed tension as Governor Agbu Kefas faced opposition from former Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Sambo, who insisted the process must remain transparent and credible.
Similarly, former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, rejected the governorship primary process in Oyo State, alleging intimidation, manipulation and falsification of results in parts of the state.
In Bauchi State, some party members protested alleged attempts to impose a governorship candidate, demanding a transparent and competitive process.
Following the reported irregularities, the APC leadership postponed the governorship primaries in both Bauchi and Kwara states to Friday.
The party also approved the rescheduling of the State House of Assembly primary elections for Maradun I and Maradun II constituencies in Zamfara State to Sunday, May 24, 2026.
The developments were confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.

“The decision was approved by the National Working Committee following consultations with relevant stakeholders and in furtherance of the Party’s commitment to ensuring transparent, orderly, peaceful, and credible primary election process,” Morka stated.
