About 18 pupils from James Primary School B, Osogbo, were hospitalized due to complications linked to the mid-day meal provided under the government’s free school feeding programme.

The situation sparked widespread concern among parents after videos surfaced on social media, depicting affected pupils undergoing treatment. The victims reportedly exhibited symptoms after consuming rice with egg served as part of the school feeding initiative.
H at the school declined access to reporters, citing ongoing first term examinations for the pupils. One victim described being served the meal before experiencing stomach-related issues.
Mothers of the affected pupils noted a foul smell from the eggs served, raising suspicions about the quality of the food provided. They demanded a thorough investigation to prevent similar incidents.
However, the Commissioner for Education, Mr. Dipo Eluwole, raised questions about the disparity in the number of affected pupils, mentioning that over a hundred consumed the meal but only a few fell ill. He highlighted that despite efforts to offer medical examinations, some parents refused, casting doubt on the severity of the situation.
In response, the APC chairman, Mr. Tajudeen Lawal, directed blame towards Governor Ademola Adeleke, criticizing the alleged substandard quality of food provided through the school feeding programme. Lawal expressed concern over the reported budget allocation per pupil and alleged inadequate remuneration for vendors.
Lawal’s statement underscored a broader critique of Governor Adeleke’s governance, highlighting the potential risks posed to future leaders with such alleged negligence in the school feeding program.
