EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to The Punch, the APC NEC is expected to constitute a convention planning committee during its meeting slated for July 24. The committee will oversee preparations for the party’s National Elective Convention scheduled for December, where new NWC members will be elected.
Party insiders revealed that while some members are lobbying to limit the restructuring to just replacing acting National Chairman, Ali Bukar Dalori, the broader plan favoured by governors and key stakeholders is a complete overhaul.
A source said Dalori is likely to remain in office until the December convention. “The Presidency and critical stakeholders are not interested in naming a new chairman this July. What they want is an elective convention where a new leadership will emerge,” the source stated.
Another insider explained that the push for new leadership is linked to the desire to accommodate influential newcomers and recently elected governors within the APC’s national structure.
“There’s pressure to restructure the party ahead of 2027. Some NWC members are already lobbying to retain their seats, but the broader agenda is to install a fresh team at the December convention,” the source added.
The source also disclosed that governors would soon brief President Bola Tinubu for final approval ahead of the NEC meeting.

However, APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Duro Meseko, said there’s no official plan yet for a December convention, stressing that the NEC would make the final decision on July 24.
