Low voter turnout partly linked to Ramadan fasting across FCT.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the election, conducted across all ten wards of Kwali on Saturday, concluded with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announcing Nuhu as the winner on Sunday morning, following the collation of results at the council’s final centre.
Nuhu won in the majority of the wards, giving the APC a decisive lead over its closest rival. With this outcome, the APC has now recorded victories in three of the four FCT area councils whose results have been released so far. The party previously secured wins in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) and Bwari, while the PDP claimed Gwagwalada. Results from the remaining councils are expected as collation continues.
Commenting on voter participation, former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad attributed the relatively low turnout to the ongoing Ramadan fast. He explained that many Muslims observe reduced physical movement and devote more time to spiritual commitments during fasting hours, which affected turnout in several polling units on Saturday, February 21.
The Kwali election underscores the APC’s growing dominance in the FCT area councils, reflecting both party organization and voter preference amid religious and seasonal considerations.
