Arsenal Beat PSG To Get First Champions League Win

Arsenal claimed their first win in the new Champions League format with a 2-0 victory over Paris St-Germain at the Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta’s side built on their opening draw against Atalanta, taking control in the first half with goals from Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka.

EDITOR’S PICKS:

Havertz opened the scoring in the 20th minute, heading in Leandro Trossard’s cross, before Saka’s free-kick from near the touchline deceived PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, slipping through a crowded penalty area to make it 2-0.

PSG came close to responding, with Nuno Mendes and Joao Neves both hitting the woodwork either side of half-time. Despite PSG’s efforts, Arsenal’s dominant first-half performance laid the foundation for the win.

Arteta was confident enough to hand a debut to Mikel Merino, a £31m signing from Real Sociedad, as Arsenal held on for a solid victory against a PSG side now without the star power of Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, and Neymar.
