Arsenal midfielder, Alex Iwobi has said he would prefer to play as a central midfielder for his club, Arsenal if the decision was down to him.
The 23-year-old is currently at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt with Nigeria where he enjoys playing from the midfield but has been utilised in a forward position at his club with the likes of Mesut Ozil, Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira ahead of him in the pecking order.
Speaking to Goal in Egypt, Iwobi, who made 951 passes, creating 40 chances in 35 appearances in the Premier League last season, said he would rather play in the middle though stating his willingness to play anywhere for manager, Unai Emery.
“I’m happy to play anywhere, I will play wherever I’m told to play,” Iwobi told Goal.
“Growing up I’ve been playing as an attacking midfielder, more central in the midfield. I wouldn’t say if I’m most comfortable there but that’s where I grew up playing.
“I’ve always seen myself as a midfielder but wherever I’m being told to play in the middle or somewhere, I will always give my best.”
