Represented by a former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Femi Pedro, Asiwaju recalled Otunbusin’s vital contributions during his days at NADECO. He described the accountant cum legal practitioner as democracy’s ultimate gladiator.

He also said Otunbushin was a true Nigerian son whose exploits have earned him a hallowed chamber in our nation’s hall of fame.

Tinubu said, “You are a patriotic Nigerian; you live here (USA), you work here, but you never left the country called Nigeria. Your heart is at home. You have worked very hard for this country. We remember your days at NADECO.

“The support you gave that organization that fought for democracy in Nigeria, the democracy that we are enjoying today, undisturbed For 24 good years since 1999, that is why I said they should give you a round of applause. Many people don’t know the work you have been doing and the support you have been giving.

“That’s why they call you the great philanthropist, and you have not only been working for NADECO, you have been working for other organizations, including the Egbe Omo Yoruba and the Eko club international. When people see your CV, they would think that you actually live in Lagos, but you’ve been working here in Houston, and you participate in every aspect of Nigerian life.”

Asiwaju also used the opportunity to woo the Nigerian diaspora community to join hands with his incoming administration and build a better and more prosperous Nigeria.

He said his manifesto was christened “Renewed Hope” because Nigeria is a giant that has been sleeping for far too long. He called for collective responsibility to restore the country to its full potential.

He added, “Ladies and gentlemen, I believe the majority of us here are Nigerians. Let me assure you that the new Nigeria will be ushered in by the 29th of May, 2023. That is less than 30 days from now. I hope you’re all listening to me. I want you to start packing your bags and get ready to come home.

“We need you all in Nigeria. We want to make Nigeria the United States of Nigeria, as good and better as this great country called the United States of America. They say The journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. We are taking the first step 63 years after independence.”

According to him, his administration is poised to put in the hard yards that would position all the critical sectors of Nigeria’s socio-economic fabric to accelerate developmental strides that will reverberate across all nooks and crannies of the country.
