Sterling Bank has stated reasons for removing charges on all local transactions for its customers.

EkoHotBlog scoops that Sterling Bank  removed transfer charges on all local transactions, making banking easier and fairer for Nigerians. This move makes Sterling the first major bank in Nigeria to stop charging fees for digital transfers.

Recall that the announcement was made on April 1, and many people first thought it was an April Fools’ joke.

However, the bank confirmed that the change is real and is already in effect.

“We believe people should have access to their own money without paying extra fees,” said Obinna Ukachukwu, a senior executive at Sterling Bank. “This is not just a business decision; it reflects our values.”

With this new policy, Sterling Bank customers can now send money within Nigeria for free using the bank’s mobile app. This is expected to benefit individuals and small businesses that rely on frequent transfers.

“We may not be the biggest bank in Nigeria, but we are the boldest,” Ukachukwu added. “We believe in Nigeria’s future, and this is our way of supporting Nigerians with action, not just words.”

Sterling Bank has a history of customer-friendly policies. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it provided financial support to healthcare workers. This latest move has received positive reactions from the public, with many people on social media praising the bank and urging others to do the same.

“We are proud to lead this change,” Ukachukwu said. “We hope other banks will rethink how they serve their customers, not just in service but in values.”
