According to the Minister, some federal universities have already reflected the approved increase in their salary payments. He added that formal notifications have been issued to all federal universities to ensure uniform implementation of the increment nationwide and its full integration into institutional payroll systems.
Dr. Alausa also directed Vice Chancellors of federal universities to strictly comply with the approved framework for the implementation of the Consolidated Tools Allowance (CATA). He urged university managements to deploy available resources prudently to ensure prompt and effective payment of the allowance.
The Minister explained that the payment of CATA has already been captured and circularised by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC), and its inclusion in the 2026 budget follows established statutory procedures.

He stressed that timely implementation of both the CAA increase and CATA would boost staff morale, strengthen the academic environment and improve outcomes in teaching, research and learning across Nigerian universities.
The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to honouring agreements reached with stakeholders in the education sector, while promoting transparency, industrial harmony and sustained engagement aimed at improving the quality and stability of Nigeria’s university system.
