EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has again extended its strike action by 12 weeks after the expiration of the previous 3 months warning strike.
This was confirmed by the National President of ASUU, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke Monday morning.
Members of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) held a meeting overnight yesterday to finalise their decision on the strike after submitting that the Federal Government is not serious with Nigerian Educational sector.
The emergency meeting, which had in attendance principal officers and branch chairmen of the union, ended early Monday morning.
A member of the NEC meeting who spoke yesterday explained that the submissions of ASUU members so far in the meeting showed that the strike will be extended.
In his words, he said,
“The Federal Government is not serious”. ASUU’s demand from the government lies on the non implementation of their 2009 agreement, some other demands are Earned Academic Allowances, renegotiation of the 2009 agreement and the deployment of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) among others.
After the expiration of the initial four-week warning strike which was declared in February 14, 2022, the union had gone ahead to declare additional eight weeks of industrial action, saying that it was giving the government more time to attend to its needs.
