ASUU Declares Indefinite Strike Over Working Conditions
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), Bauchi, has commenced an indefinite strike to demand better working conditions from the university administration.
The decision was announced after an emergency congress held at the Yuli Campus in Bauchi, where the SAZU ASUU Chairperson, Comrade Awwal Hussain Nuhu, explained that all efforts to engage the university authorities had failed.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that he noted that previous attempts at dialogue had been met with what he described as a lack of willingness and commitment from both the university administration and the government.
“After exhausting all avenues for negotiation, the congress resolved to embark on a total, comprehensive, and indefinite strike,” Comrade Nuhu stated. A motion for the strike was moved by a union member and subsequently seconded, leading to the unanimous passage of the resolution.
The strike officially began at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, November 29, 2024. ASUU members were directed to suspend all academic activities, including teaching, marking, meetings, and accreditation processes.
“No academic activity or meetings of any form will take place during this strike,” the statement read.
The union reiterated its resolve to continue the strike until its demands for improved working conditions are addressed, calling on all members to comply fully.
This development has effectively brought academic operations at Sa’adu Zungur University to a standstill, with students and stakeholders eagerly awaiting a resolution to the standoff.
