Babagana Monguno Alleges Plot To Create Civil Unrest Through Naira Scarcity
  • National Security Adviser to the President, Babagana Monguno, has alleged moves to use the naira scarcity to create civil unrest in the country.

  • The warning comes days as Nigeria prepares for the upcoming general election.

  • Monguno made this known at the inter-agency consultative committee on election security meeting on Tuesday, 21st of February.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the National Security Adviser (NSA) to the President of Nigeria, Babagana Monguno, has issued a warning about plots to use the scarcity of Naira to create civil unrest during the general election.

Monguno made this known during a meeting of the inter-agency consultative committee on election security (ICCES) on Tuesday, February 21.

EDITOR’S PICKS:

Monguno was represented at the meeting by Sanusi Galadima, a Deputy Director, and he expressed serious concern over the escalation of violence during the election campaigns across the country, despite the peace accord endorsed by all the presidential flag bearers.

The NSA stated that the attitude of political actors, their sponsored thugs, and other unpatriotic elements has largely created this ugly trend.

He added that this has further hampered the efforts of security and intelligence agencies to effectively neutralize the prevailing security situation across the country, terrorism, and banditry.

According to Monguno, his office has observed, with serious concern, the plots by domestic subversive elements and their external collaborators to use the current socio-economic climate in the country, due to well-intended government policies, to organize civil unrest during the election.

In line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful transition of political power to a democratically elected government through free, fair, and credible elections, security agents have been charged to ensure lawful deployment to deal decisively with any individual or group involved, no matter how highly placed.

The NSA urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.

Monguno’s warning comes as Nigeria prepares for the general election scheduled for February 26, 2023. This has caused concern among Nigerians, especially with the ongoing economic challenges faced by the country.

“This ugly trend is created largely by the attitude of political actors, their sponsored thugs and other unpatriotic elements. This has further hampered the efforts of security and intelligence agencies to effectively neutralise the prevailing security situation across the country, terrorism, banditry.

“It is instructive to state that the government is very much aware of plots by domestic subversive elements and their external collaborators to use the current socio economic climate in the country due to well intended government policies to organize civil unrest during the election.
