A five-year-old girl in Magama Gumau, Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State, has allegedly been brutalised by her stepmother, identified as Rabi Nuhu, for persistent bedwetting.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the victim, who lost her mother about a year ago, lives with her father, Mohammed Umar, and his new wife, but has reportedly endured repeated acts of violence in the home.

According to local human rights activist Kabiru Mohammed Abdulkadir, the abuse had gone on for about five days before being uncovered. He alleged that despite Umar buying a separate mattress to ease tensions, the violence continued.
“The girl told her uncle that her stepmother burnt her private part because she wets the bed often. It was the uncle who escalated the matter and reported it to the police,” Abdulkadir said, adding that the suspect frequently vented frustrations with her husband on the child.

Umar, who works with an online television station, admitted that he initially believed his wife’s claim that the burns were caused by spilled hot tea. He said his wife had persistently complained about the child’s bedwetting before the latest incident.
Confirming the case, the spokesperson for the Bauchi State Police Command, CSP Mohammed Wakil, said the matter was reported on September 13, 2025, at about 3:00 p.m.
“The victim sustained burns on her lower abdomen, thighs, and buttocks,” Wakil said.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, Sani Omolori Aliyu, had ordered the immediate arrest of the suspect and directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough investigation.
