Bauchi: Police Arrest Two ATBU Students for Alleged Theft, Assault
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two students from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) on charges of criminal conspiracy, housebreaking, and theft.
This information was revealed in a statement issued to journalists by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Mohammed Wakil, on Friday.
According to the statement, an anonymous tip was received on September 26, 2024, around 10:00 AM, reporting that a group of students had assaulted two of their peers: Bamusa Mohammed Bako, a 25-year-old 400-level student of Urban and Regional Planning, and Yusuf Umar (also known as Danfari), a 28-year-old 500-level student of Industrial Design, both from ATBU Yelwa Campus.

In response to the report, a team of detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Yelwa was dispatched to the scene to rescue the victims and begin an investigation.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that the suspects conspired and broke into the residence of Raji Rabi’u, a 28-year-old 400-level student of Estate Management at ATBU, at approximately 3:00 AM on the same day. They allegedly stole various items, including a 32-inch Hisense TV, a DSTV decoder, a woofer, a speaker, a pair of shoes, a blanket, and a prayer mat.

Wakil stated that the suspects are currently under investigation and have reportedly confessed to the crime, claiming that the stolen items were intended to finance their final-year project defense.
“They will be charged in court once the preliminary inquiry is concluded,” Wakil added.
