The South-South Governors’ Forum, a collective of governors from the region, convened in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, to address crucial issues and strategies pertinent to the region’s unity and development.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the meeting resulted in the election of Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri as the forum’s chairman, with Cross River State Governor Prince Bassey Edet Otu serving as vice-chairman.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the governors reiterated their dedication to collaborative governance and promoting the well-being of the South-South people.
They pledged to set aside party affiliations to present a unified stance on national issues impacting the region.

Governor Diri, in his acceptance speech, embraced his new role as a call to service, emphasizing his commitment to galvanizing the South-South region towards development and ensuring its rightful place in Nigeria.
The South-South Governors’ Forum commended President Bola Tinubu for his efforts in initiating work on the coastal road, emphasizing the importance of starting construction from the Calabar axis to ensure a balanced development across the region.
Additionally, the forum advocated for extending environmental remediation efforts, currently focused on Ogoni, to other polluted areas within the South-South region.
Furthermore, the forum expressed support for President Tinubu’s Tax Bill, with a particular focus on extending the proposed Value Added Tax (VAT) sharing percentage to other areas of derivation, such as oil and gas.
