Bayo Osiyemi @ 70: Celebrating A 'Wordsmith', The Son Of A Goldsmith!

Like the birth of every great men across the globe, the birth of a son of a famous goldsmith in the ancient town of Ijebu-Igbo, now alienated in modern day Ogun State, was symbolic.

The birth of the boy into the royal family of Osiyemi 70 years ago was described by traditionalists, soothsayers and missionaries as a sign of good omen for the town, considering the mystery surrounding the birth on February 4, 1950.

Growing with strong attachment to his late father, especially on his goldsmith job, one would think little Bayo was determined to take over his father’s job later in life, but the young boy was cleverly crafting how to transform the act into ‘wordsmith’ and not goldsmith.

Little wonder how the charming Prince from Ijebu-Igbo had a smooth take off in his career as a journalist, using his pen to smoothly ‘smith’ words for easy reading of members of the public.

Those who know Bayo Osiyemi in the old era of Sketch and Tribune will attest to the fact that the young reporter of yore was more of a talented professional and a potential veteran in the chosen field.

His journey into politics started with his destined meeting with the first civilian Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande who later appointed him as his Chief Press Secretary (CPS) on assuming power in 1979.

Since then, the ‘wordsmith’ has left no stone unturned in his combination of journalism and politics in the state of excellence, soaring high to the delight of the numerous followers he garnered on his path to journalism and Political success.

The pioneer Editor of the defunct Lagos News owned by Alhaji Jakande had his first major breakthrough in politics when he was elected the Executive Chairman of Mushin Local Government during which he proved his political prowess, ‘smithing’ the area administratively.

Nicknamed ‘Babalawo’ for his role as the Director, Chieftancy & Traditional Affairs, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Independent Campaign Group (BOSICG), Osiyemi exhausted his journalism prowess and political dexterity into the 2019 Governorship campaign in Lagos.

Let’s join him at the Lagos Sheraton Hotel on Tuesday evening (February 4, 2020) where he would gather who is who for the launching of his 530paged book, ‘THE CHARMING

Prince in journalism & politics’.

70 HEARTY CHEERS to humility personified & motivational Osiyemi, the sitting Special Adviser on Chieftancy Matters in Lagos State.
