Reacting to the achievement, the 48-year-old filmmaker expressed gratitude to God, fans, and everyone involved in the project, while also announcing the movie’s international cinema run.
“Forever grateful to God and my fans. Thank you for the love and support over the years. Big thanks to the distributors, cast, crew, and colleagues. Behind The Scenes is now showing in the UK and Ireland,” Akindele wrote on X.
FilmOne Entertainment, in its own post, described the feat as historic, noting that the film has shattered multiple box office records. According to the distributor, Behind The Scenes is now the fastest movie in West Africa to cross ₦1 billion and also holds the record for the highest single-day gross, earning ₦129.5 million on Boxing Day.
The distributor further revealed that the movie is currently the highest-grossing film of 2025. With this success, Akindele has become the only director to cross the ₦1 billion mark at the box office three different times.
She also holds the record as Nollywood’s highest-grossing producer and the first filmmaker to deliver three consecutive ₦1 billion films within a single calendar year.

Earlier in its run, Behind The Scenes crossed ₦512 million in just 12 days, making it the fastest Nollywood film to hit the ₦500 million mark in 2025. The movie had advanced screenings on December 10 and 11 before its nationwide release on December 12.
The film had earlier earned over ₦200 million during its opening weekend, setting a new record for the biggest opening weekend by a Nollywood title in 2025.
The movie, which explores the theme of black tax, stars Scarlet Gomez and features a star-studded cast including Funke Akindele, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, Uche Montana, Uzor Arukwe, Ini Dima-Okojie, Adebowale “Mr Macaroni”, Ibrahim Chatta, Kamo State, and reality TV stars Handi and Wanni Danbaki.
Currently showing in cinemas across Nigeria, Behind The Scenes has expanded to the UK and Ireland, with its United States cinema release scheduled for January 9.
