Those affected are Alfred Berger representing Makurdi North, Terna Shimawua representing Kian, Cyril Ekong from Obi, and James Umoru from Apa constituency.
The suspension, announced on Friday, followed what the leadership of the Assembly described as a failed move by the lawmakers to unseat the Speaker on Thursday night. The leadership stated that the action of the four members amounted to a direct challenge to the authority and order of the Assembly.
Confirming the decision, the House maintained that the lawmakers would be barred from participating in all legislative activities for the next six months as part of disciplinary measures.
The development has heightened political tension within the Assembly, with observers noting that the move could deepen divisions among members. However, the leadership stressed that it would not condone any act capable of undermining the stability of the legislative body.
The suspension is seen as a strong message from the Assembly’s leadership to deter further attempts at internal disruption and to preserve its institutional order.
