In a statement from General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, it was revealed that the vandals cut down tower No. T372 along the Gombe-Damaturu-Maiduguri 330kV transmission line on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at approximately 1:44 AM.
As a result of this attack, power supply to Damaturu and parts of Maiduguri in Borno State has been disrupted. TCN noted that the vandals severed all four footings of the tower, leading to its collapse, which was discovered by TCN’s emergency patrol linesmen.
EDITOR’S PICKS:
In response to the incident, TCN’s engineers are currently working to temporarily restore power to Damaturu through a 33kV transmission line from Potiskum, while Maiduguri will receive electricity from the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant (MEPP).
The company announced that immediate work will begin to dismantle and remove the collapsed tower in order to reconstruct and restore the transmission line.
TCN condemned the ongoing attacks on national assets and urged citizens to remain vigilant in protecting these infrastructures.
They encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities or individuals near transmission facilities to law enforcement or local TCN offices.
Mbah emphasized TCN’s commitment to quickly restoring bulk power to the affected areas and ensuring that reconstruction work on the tower is expedited for swift completion.
