No fewer than 14 persons have died following a boat accident in Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The incident occurred in Gumbi village, Gumbi Ward, when a boat conveying passengers capsized while returning from a wedding ceremony. The victims had earlier accompanied a bride to her husband’s home in Gwarzo village in Ngaski Local Government Area.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that sources said the celebrants were heading back to their community when the overloaded boat overturned, plunging more than 100 passengers into the water.
Fourteen persons, comprising 13 women and one child, were confirmed dead, while several others were rescued from the river.
Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, attended the funeral prayer for the deceased and expressed condolences to the bereaved families, the Yauri Local Government authorities, the emirate council and residents of the area.
The governor, who was represented by the Chairman of Yauri Local Government, Abubakar Shu’aibu, urged the families to accept the incident as the will of God.
“I appeal to you to accept this in good faith, bearing in mind that nothing happens without the knowledge of our Creator.
“God does what He wants at the time He wants, and nobody has the right to question Him,” he said.
He also prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and asked God to forgive their shortcomings and grant them Jannatul Firdaus.
All the victims were buried according to Islamic rites shortly after their bodies were recovered, as mourning spread across the affected communities.
